Best UK Sitcom EVER!
Ever since I started watching Only Fools years ago I have been hooked and it is by far the best sitcom to come out of the UK in the last 30 years.I moved to the US back in the summer of 2009 and thought that I would miss out on watching my favourite show, but thankfully the episodes have now all been released onto Region 1 format so I can watch them again till my hearts content.I won't bore you to death by going on about what the series is about and who is in it as that has been covered to death, but I will say that to anyone who is still unsure about this great comedy then you are missing out on an absolute treat! Even if you think that it starts off slow or it is not very funny, just stick with it because it gets MUCH better and MUCH funnier as the series goes on.My wife is American and after the first couple of episodes from the first series she turned and said "I'm sorry but this show is pretty lame". We are now up to the end of series 6 and she has been laughing her butt off. Not bad for a "lame show". So to all those people who have given up after watching only the first couple of episodes, well, you have no idea on what you are missing out on by not watching the rest of the series! This is a great boxset which brings you all the episodes from series 1 - 3 and a bonus material disc with interviews, character descriptions and even a glossary of terms for the London slang that gets used in the show. You cannot ask for a better way to start off your Only Fools And Horses collection.Very much recommended.

"He Migt Be Mad, But He Would Have To Be Bloody Stupid...."
"He Might Be Mad, But He Would Have To Be Bloody Stupid To Be Out In This Weather!" - is the complete line. This quote is taken from the episode "Friday the 14th" in which Del Boy finds himself stranded in a cottage in the middle of no-where, in the middle of a storm with an axe-wielding murderer.Like many people, I am a Brit living and working in the US. I was able to start receiveing this show last year when KLRA in Dallas started showing it, and I am glad it is finally on DVD.The wonderful and talented Lennard Pierce who appears in this set sadly passed away during the filimg on the final episodes - he was later to be replaced by "Uncle Albert" yet another inept member of the Trotter family. Lennard's contribution to the show however, can never be challenged - It was during the first seasons featuring him that the word "Plonker" firmly established itself in the English Language. There are many other famous British actors in this show, such as Roger LLoyd Pack who appears as Owen in the Vicar Of Dibley, and the LandLord "Mike" who was in "It Aint Half Hot Mum", not forgetting David Jason and Nicholas Lindhurst themselves.Only Fools and Horses is as much a British tradition as afternoon tea, and "Walks By The River". It's humor, sublime and sometimes blunt lines are a pleasure to enjoy. Who will ever forget a 6"5' Nicholas Lindhurst dressed in full skateboarding gear after Dell sends in a picture Rodney drew as a 15 year old to a Kellogs competition only to win. Unfortunately, the 30 year old Rodney has to pretend he's 15 so they can get the free vacation!Buy this DVD, you will not regret it. If you don't then "You Really Are A Plonker Rodney!"

Very fun and enjoyable
It was suggested to me that this is the 'best British comedy ever'. Sure I have seen Monty Python and Benny Hill but in the USA this is unheard of. This my take a few minutes of viewing for the average American to clearly understand this British English but I don't have any trouble getting it. However, I have asked a couple of Brit friends of mine to explain some things such as 'Luvly Jubbly' but in context everything becomes obvious. My English vocabulary is expanding as a result of Fools. You Walley! So I bought season 4, 5.

slice of eighties England fun in its own right
I had unrealistic expectations as friends loved it and talked of it fondly. It is very dated for better and for worse. It has a quaint charm and time capsule quality, but was often painfully predictable. Predictable not only as intended, a foreshadowing letting the audience know a plot twist was impending, but all the the particulars were also obvious. That said it was fun, uncommon, and probably deserves credit for paving the way in popular perception of a Cockney main character who does not need to change.

DVDs
The DVDs do not function correctly and one out of the four seems to be inoperable all together. Given that this item is used, I think it was somewhat overpriced. However, what we can see is very enjoybable thank you.

Funny and poignant
How did we miss out on this in the states? I spent the 80s watching Blackadder, To the Manor Born, Ab Fab, and a host of others, but I don't recall this one. I ran across the title in a book about British Christmases. This is really funny and with characters you can invest in.

Well, I guess you have to be British
Well, I guess you have to be British to really appreciate this series. It was OK but think it was wasted on me. kind of like "Faulty Towers" but not nearly so funny.

Only Fools & Horses
I first knew David Jason as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in "A Touch of Frost. He was so down to earth and logical that I could never have imagined him as a sleezy, fly by night, scheme of the moment, ner do well swindler known as "Del boy" in this funny series. I can hardly wait until he plays the same role as an older man soon to be released. Truly, a great actor and well worthy of his genuine Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II.Dr. Jim Rush, South Carolina
