I think it depends on your toilet but it does move around a bit, yes. Not a lot so I think your baby would eventually fit. My 2.5 year old fits just fine even though she is a tall girl for her age :)

Q: Can the lid be closed when this seat is in place?

No, the lid closes partially only , leaving it stuck 5 inches or so higher

Q: how well does it work for boys? is the front high enough not to get pee all over every time?

We experience a lot of backsplash with this product and our 26 month old boy. I don’t know if it’s due to his size, and being younger, having to sit closer to the front. But the splash back was happening enough that my husband had to cut the guard, so that the pee could pass it. It didn’t work for us, though I LOVE baby bjorn products.
