I hadn't bought a jar in years, and picked one up last week. This barely qualifies as marmalade, it's more jelly and I had to look for any rind. Ripoff. I'll just use it to glaze something because it's too sweet for me. Yuck.

Q: Last jar was very gelatinous- difficult to spread, is there a way to make it more smooth?

The consistency of Dundee marmalade is unchanged over the years that I have been purchasing it. Marmalades, to my liking, are full of pieces of orange peel in a jelly structure that is slightly bitter to the taste. Most American marmalades eliminate or grind the orange peel and add too much sugar to make an overly sweet jam. In the end, it is just a question of what you prefer.

Q: Is the marmalade quite dark compared to the sweeter American brands?

It is a bit darker than American brands but not as dark, and with smaller chunks, than Frank Cooper’s Oxford marmalade.

Q: When i was a child mother would buy a bitter orange marmalade in a crock and all i remember is the name dundee. is this the same?

Yes, this is the same orange marmalade that used to come in an off-white crock. They changed the jar to clear glass about 3 years ago.
