Yes, it will work with both the digital and analog toning modes.

Q: will this work to find shorts,broken wires in automotive? Do I have to unhook 12v DC circuit?

It will not work for finding auto shorts and opens.

Q: How do you tone cable that uses poe? the tone is so weak i can barely hear it

The fluke uses POE not a toner. The to er is used to trace out the location of the cable run. Fluke uses POE to confirm the status of the connection to a switch that supports POE.
