Solved my rat problem in short order
So I have (had) barn rats…two of which bodies measured 12 inches head to base of tail…ughhhhhhhhhh!.So first thing i did was set it to not dunk by putting a screw on the very back edge of the big plank and then tied it to the screw i added about 3 inches lower that secures it to the barrel….I used a 40 gallon barrel with about 10 inches of water in it….and decided once the TRUST was secured i was going for the BIG rats first…they are the smartest and will trip when their buddies are dunked in water…as they swim around and look for a way out…So i secured it stable for the first day and i used pecan cake icing, which really when its hot, doesn’t stick that well but they cant resist it….so first I got the the adult mother or father…not sure which went down first….but both were way bigger than their offspring….and I also got one of their 3 adolescent offspring from last years litter (I’m guessing there)…all in less than two hours of sunset….then once the mother was gone ALL the babies then came out in a day or two looking for food…….10 in all….i about had a cardiac when i saw the critters darting here and there on my cameras….….So then once the two biggest (and smartest) were gone I set the sensitivity for a LIGHTER WEIGHT rat but more importantly because the older the rat the smarter they are…the two remaining adolescent rats now were a bit Leary of the plank as they scuttle at the top of the barrel trying to figure out how to free their parents and sibling as they stood on their tippy toes keeping their heads out of the water. (I thought 12 inches of water was enough) so I set it back to SECURE with my two screws and some wire…I did that for one night and the next night set it back to dunk mode….I then got one of the adolescents that night and had one left to go so instead of securing it again i just set the sensitivity up once again and once the other adolescent was on it (next night) and a small baby rat joined it…they both went into the barrel….I also set out a mixture of plaster of Paris powdered sugar and unsweetened chocolate baking powder and the babies ate a bunch of out and now I seem to be down to one baby rat….Ive only dinked 3 so far….so this time…i switched out the big plank for the little mouse one and baited it….So far this has worked like a charm on my barn rats…once they drown i take them into a nearby field and the raccoons, possum and vultures have a safe fresh meal…no blood, no touching disgusting traps and most of all.no more barn rats….or next door neighbor putting out poison and killing my cats but not doing anything to sufficient the rat population in the barn….I think this product could use a secure device on the back like i made with the screws and would allow the bait to adhere just a tad bit better but all in all….its a win win for me….

Sadly, does not work
I bought a 20 gal trash barrel. Put the barrel on the driveway where I watched rats running around on our video camera. Installed the Plank on the barrel. Per the instructions, set the tension to high so that the Plank would not drop the rat into the barrel until the rats got use to the new item in the environment. Put a piece of wood as a ramp up to the Plank. Put some peanut butter on the end of the ramp. I watched on the camera for 3 or 4 days before the peanut butter disappeared. I put more peanut on it. It took another day for that peanut butter to disappear. Then I finally caught a rat on camera. The rat jumped up from the ground to the edge of the barrel without using the ramp. Walked around the edge to the Plank and ate the peanut butter. That means that the rat could simply jump out of the barrel. I could change to a taller barrel, but the Plant is not going to fit on those edge of those barrels without a bunch of careful modification of the barrel. Of course, I could fill the barrel with water to prevent the rats from jumping out, but my intention was to live catch the rats and relocate them to another environment.

Items are as described, but our rats/mice are too smart for it
Since there are no other reviews for this double plank trap, I decided to write one. Let’s start with shipping.. it actually came way before it’s estimated delivery date which I appreciated. Packaging was also satisfactory. All items were present and as pictured.. Decent quality..although please note.. there is no wooden ramp for the larger “rat” trap so you will need to purchase or find one around your house, everything else is provided including a smaller wooden ramp for the “mouse” trap. Yes.. it comes with TWO (plastic/green) sizes of planks. I was mainly interested in capturing rats under our porch so that’s the one I used.. from my experience so far it has been a fail unfortunately. I used a LARGE yard waste bucket, but the rats are either too smart to fall in or too big for the trap and jump out of it, they enjoy the peanut butter and sunflower seeds though. We did manage to catch a mouse (using the larger, rat plank) a couple nights ago.. but since we optioned out of using water and drowning them, the mouse actually managed to bite herself out through the thick plastic bucket and escape before we could relocate it. Unfortunately, our rats and mice proved to be too smart for this trap. If you are planning to use even a larger bucket, block the top so they can’t jump out or use water so they drown (I advise against it) then this MIGHT possibly work.. we will give it a couple more tries by adjusting the trap, but so far it has not been as breezy and successful as I hoped. Good luck!
