Good all-purpose pencil
This is a great pencil. Writes very smoothly while holding a point fairly well. Not the best, but good for the price.

Great. Don't break.
I bought these because my normal pencils kept breaking. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the more expensive Mitsubishi pencils (those are like 2.50 each....) so I got these instead. They haven't broken yet after sharpening or writing. They keep a point. They're centered properly.Overall, just a very nice little pencil to use.

Maybe The Best Japanese Pencil for the Price
I REALLY like these pencils. They write very smoothly and are a great price. The fit and finish is excellent and they sharpen very smoothly with a Mitsubishi KH20. This is the third Mitsubishi Pencil I have tried; it competes well against the 9850 and the Hi Uni. I bought these pencils because I wanted an eraserless smoothly capped 9850, keeping the high fit and finish, dark line, and point retention. It performs almost identically to the 9850. I wanted this pencil to be a cheaper Hi Uni B but in HB while not sacrificing much, it has that in spades. One minor knock I do have against this pencil is the wood. The Hi Uni's are top shelf incense cedar (you pay for it), the 9850 is I believe cedar but of a lesser quality, and the 9000 is of a different species entirely. It may be some type of fir. If you want to get the most of these pencils I HIGHLY recommend getting a burr sharpener, as it will sharpen the softer wood much better than a quickly dulled blade sharpener. With my KH20 I don't even notice the lesser wood quality visibly or in use. Get one, do yourself a favor. If you want to know what the hubbub is around premium Japanese drawing/writing pencils - this is a great place to start.

A lovely writing instrument.
This pencil has a strong incense cedar smell to it which I love. It's very fancy looking and writes like a dream if you have a soft touch. Really a lovely writing instrument.

Good value
These are decent pencils. Harder edge of the HB range. Good point retention. Doesn't smudge much.

Excellect quality
Has a beautiful lacquered finish. The lead has a dry , quiet feel to it and is quite dark.

Waxier than I would have expected from Mitsubishi
Considering I have and use most of the Mitsubishi woodcased pencils from the Hi-Uni down, I was surprised by the 9000 HB. This is my first time trying these, and I assumed it would be as silky-smooth as others across the Mitsu spectrum. This version has just a bit of waxiness - that "slight tight before the glide." It's just a bit, but if you're spoiled by other Mitsubishis (and better Tombows), you might not care for these. If you're used to inexpensive brands, you'll probably love it.
