I bought this and another brand (one of the many blue ones on Amazon) before I had a tonsillectomy at age 39. The surgery and 2-week recovery was the worst time in my life. I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like someone set razor blades on fire and sliced my throat and tongue. Icepacks really helped, and this one in particular was my favorite. I read a bunch of negative reviews about this black one but honestly, it was so worth the cost and perfect for my recovery, even if I never use it again.So it comes in a plastic sealable bag you use to chill it in the freezer so it doesn't get dirty I suppose. I always used the bag when chilling it in the freezer. It takes maybe 30-60 minutes to get cold in the freezer. When you take it out, it will stay cold for only 15-30 minutes, probably depending on the temperature of the air and your skin. But you are really not supposed to ice your body more than 15-30 minutes at a time anyway so I was fine with that. It chills fairly quickly so you can use it multiple times per day. I switched off using this and one or two other icepacks.The thing I really liked most about this product was the fact that it was made out of gel, so it contours to your face, and it is super soft. It has no edges or hems or seams, unlike the blue one I bought which I didn't like at all. This black one covers all your relevant face parts for oral surgery and doesn't push anywhere. The cold gel goes right to the edges of the pack, and the entire thing is gel except the part on the top of your head. The softness is so important when everything is swollen and painful to the touch. This icepack provides instant relief from oral pain.It fit me (a woman with an average head) perfectly snugly, but has some give/stretch for different size heads. It may be too big for a child though. I saw one bad review that was unhappy it was stitched together as one piece instead of having ties or velcro to close it. Personally I liked that it was stitched together; I felt that helped it fit more snugly (versus the blue one that used velcro and I constantly had to re-adjust).Honestly, I cannot rave enough about this product and I highly recommend it to anyone who is going through wisdom teeth or tonsil removal or other oral surgery. It literally helped me survive.

This worked out well for wisdom teeth surgery and although the oral surgeon provided one we liked this product better because it was softer on face and didn’t have the ice inserts. Highly suggest that you have two so that one is always cold.

It’s good, gets cold fast. Very cold. Works. But there’s two flaws. It comes off easy if you have a small head. The stretch is really good on this. And two, it doesn’t stay cold for long because it’s not like an actual ice pack. There’s nothing there that’s really freezing. But a gel type pad that just gets really cold. Cold lasted me about ten to twenty minutes. I didn’t really time it. But if you’re using this for wisdom teeth or a tonsillectomy, I used mine for after my tonsillectomy, I’d buy two so you can alternate. It doesn’t take long to absorb the cold. And man it gets cold. It just doesn’t last for very long before it needs refrozen. So buy two. But it’s worth it. Did the job.

I love it for the 2 Mins it stays hot. Bought for TMJ but you get what you paid for. I wouldn't recommend it for heat but I bet it would stay cold for a while. Definitely would be good for wisdom teeth removal. Just didn't like. Fits on the head fine and don't slip. Mixed emotions

This wrap was recommended to me for oral surgery where I needed to have a wisdom tooth and another molar removed -- after the age of 50. I started using the wrap as soon as I got home from surgery. I used it off and on for 20 minutes at a time throughout that first day. I also used it in the morning on day 2. By mid-morning on day 2, I noticed I had very little to no swelling. I've included pictures of day 1 and day 2 as reference.The wrap is soft and I didn't find it too cold to be uncomfortable. It is also reasonably priced. I am glad my co-worker recommended this wrap to me.

I should’ve listened to the reviews when they mentioned the “ice pack” doesn’t last longer than 3 minutes tops! I had tonsillectomy surgery and I couldn’t even rely on this due to it not even being cold after such short use. I was better off just using singular ice packs on my neck/throat. Really a waste

My daughter used this after having wisdom teeth removed. It was her favorite ice pack to use. She found the material very soft and the cooling compression very comforting. Our only issue was needing more of them. Since it has to go back in the freezer for 2 hours between uses, we needed more of them to keep the 20 minutes on- twenty minutes off schedule the doctor recommended post-surgery. Also, it only stays cold enough for the 20-minutes cycling, not much more. Overall, we really liked it.
