veneer thin layer that looks like wood...
Piece of crap...actually...a veneer of wood..thin like paper ....with no solid wood backing it...so my knee went through the bench seat as I was balancing it to set it up for the first time...I am not overweight...not a big person..my knee was not forceful...just balancing..and the piece of crap cracked...didn't even finish assemblingg it for the first time...do not purchase.

Accommodating and maneuverable
I chose this particular easel because it had wheels. I’m 73 and this makes it so much easier to move around without having to lift it. I took it outside on the patio the other day to finish a painting because the weather was so pleasant. I like that one can adjust the height of the canvas. It’s well made and smoothly finished. Very glad I purchased it. I’m considering taking it to the park, too.

My experience - think I'm going to really like it!
I ordered this easel after ordering a French easel that was completely unstable. This one was a little more expensive but certainly reasonable. In putting it together, I couldn't figure out how the upright bar that holds the canvas worked (as you can see, the bottom shelf obscures the upright bar in the track – and NO instructions were provided). But, I figured it out, the vertical bar slides in with half of the vertical bar in the slot and the other half on the backside. And, as someone else wrote, if you were to have the vertical bar as high as shown in the photo, you're going to need to "shim" the bar – I used a golf tee! I really doesn't matter if the vertical bar tilts because you can control the leveling of your canvas with the base shelf!

Just what the Artist ordered
Sturdy and accommodating, works well with medium canvases.

Broke on first use
Great idea BUT The first time I sat on it the thin wooden seat broke! I am not skinny, but neither am I huge. I have never broken anything I sat on before. Someone else aid the same thing.

Nice Bench, Nice price
This bench is great. I feel comfortable, it can be easily rolled to another place and the price was unbeatable.

Don't buy.
Buyers beware. The actual bench part of this easel seems to have no internal support. It cracked when we sat on it and we're sending it back. Aside from that, the overall construction is rather rickety, especially the easel which will not be a great surface for painting. It's also a little too short, especially if you use long brushes.
