Q: All reviews are about casts - what about a bandage w/ ace wrap from surgery but not broken bone on foot?

The cast protector was for taking showers and it kept the water out 100%. I see no reason it will not work 100% to protect a bandage w/ ace wrap during a shower.

Sorry, it won't. But you won't really need it unless they told you to get something like it. I had one knee replaced and you have surgical staples put in not sutures in the surface skin for about 10-14 days. Soap and water doesn't effect the staples. The staples don't hurt and they put a dry dressing over them. Usually 3 days after surgery if there is no wound drainage at the incision sight you can take a shower without covering it with a waterproof covering. Each doctor handles their patients a little differently. Be sure to write your questions and concerns down and ask the doctor or nurse before surgery so you are prepared. Amazon does sell thigh high waterproof coverings for protection, but I don't think you are going to need them. Some hospital offer a one time class for patients undergoing joint replacement. They tell you what you can expect. I found it very helpful. Call to see if yours does and signUp if it's before your surgery. There are some special devices you might want to pick up ahead of time. One helps you put on your socks, your shoes and another to pick up things in the early stages that you drop on the floor. Amazon sells Hip Kit #1 ADL Products 5items. They call it a hip kit but it works for total knee replacement as well. You can probably buy just what you think you will need piece by piece also. I do recommend something to pick up dropped items and something to help you put on your sock on the surgical leg. In the beginning you arms are not long enough to reach you foot because your Knee doesn't bend that well yet. The Carex Sock Aid sold at Amazon is my favorite. I still have mine and will use it for my second knee replacement. So you can just buy them individually. Good luck!

I know this question is 4 years old, but maybe this answer helps someone else. The cover was too lose for me below the knee (I have a 13.5” calf also) but the bag was long enough to go over my knee and get an airtight seal there.

It's really to protect your cast from the shower...non weight-bearing.
