Yes,It can be used outdoors but the ground have to be flat.

How straight are the edges? Would two of these next to each other have gaps, or be seamless?

The edges of my mat are pretty straight, but I only have one, so I can’t be 100% sure that there wouldn’t be any small gaps if it were lined up side-by-side with another.

does the mat leave discoloration on a carpet underneath it?

No. I’ve had mine almost two years and I’ve yet to experience any issues with discoloration.
