Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR Lens Black

I love this lens. I was going to give this lens a miss after reading various unfavourable reviews around the net but after I read the reviews on here esp the person who tried one on the Nikon course and then bought it, I decided to take a chance and try it and am so glad I did. The lens is very light in weight and feels so nice and well balanced on my camera (D5300) also is very sharp and gives great results and is very easy to use. I previously have bought the Nikon 105mm macro but it weighs a ton and hand held is a tiring compared to this and in macro there’s no real difference in sharpness or anything else. In normal use yes the 105mm is better but I much prefer the 85mm it’s nicer and lighter and gives results that I am very happy with. Think I will probably sell the 105mm when I get round to it.

After tonnes of research and only owning kit lenses / non-specialist prime lenses I decided to buy this lens without try it and FINALLY I can just concentrate on getting the shot instead of working within the limitations of the lens. Autofocus and Image quality are spot on and a lot more of my shots are usable, I haven't had a shot for which I went to editing and found distortion or quality problems.

Excellent quality pictures. I'm still getting the hang of using the lens, so will update with further information. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed if you are thinking of getting some Macro shots and buy this lens.

A cracking good lens and a good introduction to macro photography at an affordable price.Build quality is light and plastic, however its good and not unlike like the the 18-55mm kit lens in weight and feel, just a little heavier.It doesn't feel as heavy or robust as the DX 18-200mm superzoom.Some of observations on this lens after a couple thousand shots.1) Stop down to F8-11 for sharpest results. Set ISO to 100 and you are in for some wonderful, punchy pictures that have pop and presence.2) Tripod is a must for macro.3) Auto focus is god awful at macro level. You will understand when you get round to using it. Unless you have a really contrasty subject with clearly defined edges, the lens bounces in and out without finding anything to focus on. Manual focusing is and will become necessary.4) Bokeh is pleasing.5) Depth of field is ultra shallow at macro levels even stopped down to optimum aperture. This is to be expected and we are talking focusing zone in fractions of a millimeter.6) The 52mm filter thread allows it to be used in conjunction with a Raynox clip on macro lens and the two make a perfect combo. This makes the magnification even more powerful, up to 1.5X over the 1:1 ratio this lens provides as standard. It makes for mega macro pictures, its like looking down a low power microscope.As a portrait lens, the bokeh is more pleasing than DX zoom kit lenses and marginally faster. The VR is always welcome in any DX lens.4/5. Recommended and a solid option for DX macro.

Received this lens today and what an amazing lens: On my D7000 this lens is sharp at F3.5 and very sharp when stopped down to F5, the quality of the macro images has to be seen to be believed, and the VR is great for those hand held shots. Another good thing is that one can use this lens for portraits, true it's not an F2.8 lens, but at F3.5 the difference is small as far as the bokeh is concerned. I'm really glad that I got this lens and it doesn't cost the Earth!

Considered getting a cheaper alternative but had the loan of this one at a Nikon workshop and this made my decision. My images are razor sharp now that I have got the hang of manual focussing. Worth every penny

Love this lens I was debating for a long time before I decided to purchase the 85mm over the 105mm as it did not have great reviews but am trilled I choose it. I didn't realize how close this lens is and if I had purchased the 105 I cant imagine how far back I would have to go to get some of the super shots I am getting with the 85 so If you are in the same predicament as I was you have far more opportunities with the 85mm. This macro lens was a christmas present for my daughter who had wanted a macro lens since she purchased a new nikkon camera.She reports that it does everything that she had wanted and more.A good value lens.

Buen objetivo para fotografías macro

Acquistato su Warehouse come “Usato - Ottime condizioni - Lieve imperfezione estetica sulla parte posteriore”. Appena arrivato l’ho girato, rigirato, osservato perfino con una lente d’ingrandimento, ma della lieve imperfezione nessuna traccia. Anche la scatola originale, che doveva essere danneggiata, era appena sgualcita. Consegna puntualissima.L’obiettivo sembra apposto (ho effettuato pochi scatti e mi riservo di aggiornare). Perfetta via di mezzo tra il 60 2.8 micro (per le mie esigenze corto e non stabilizzato) e l’ottimo 105 2.8 micro (costoso e pesante), nitido e incisivo. Lo sfocato è morbido e piacevole. La costruzione “plasticosa”, ma di qualità (ora sono tutti così) garantisce leggerezza e compattezza, particolari non indifferente se accoppiato a un corpo macchina pesante, magari con battery grip o nella macro a mano libera. Paraluce robusto. Consigliatissimo.

Nach bisherigen Tests bin ich mit dem Objektiv mehr als zufrieden:Sowohl für Sachaufnahmen als auch für Makro-Aufnahmen in freier Natur sehr gut zu brauchen.Auf jeden Fall besser als die meisten anderen als "Makro" deklarierten Objektive:Es ist ein "echtes" Makro-Objektiv: Abbildungs-Maßstab ab 1:1, also auch für sehr kleine Objekte und z.B. Insekten geeignet, man kann sehr nah ans Motiv ran (dann natürlich entspr. noch geringere Tiefenschärfe als im Sehr-Nah-Bereich üblich).Das Objektiv liegt sehr gut und sicher in der Hand, trotz geringem Gewicht sehr sicher zu handhaben, gute stabile Optik und Haptik (Kunststoff-Korpus, Metall-Bajonett). Dennoch besser immer zumindest mit einem Einbeinstativ fotografieren und/oder mehrere Aufnahmen vom Motiv machen: Auch kleinste Wackler sind besonders im Makrobereich sehr deutlich als Unschärfe sichtbar. Dagegen ist natürlich auch der OS Bildstabilisator machtlos, den man wie bei anderen Objektiven besser immer ausschalten sollte.Spezielle Makro-Objektiv-Vorteile:Scharfstellring: Optional MAN oder AUTO+MAN mit ständiger manueller Korrigierbarkeit (ohne Umschalten)! Funktioniert erstaunlich gut!Langer manueller Scharfstellweg für präzises Fein-Scharfstellen.Sehr guter, sehr schneller Autofokus, besonders im Nahbereich.Gute "Bokeh"-Hintergrund-Unschärfe.Wie bei den meisten Festbrennweite-Objektiven im Sehr-Nah-Bereich ggf. minimal größerer Tiefenschärfe-Bereich.(MEMO: 1–2mm mehr ist im Sehr-Nah-Bereich schon sehr "viel"!!).Für mehr Tiefenschärfe ist mehr Abstand zum Motiv erforderlich.Wie bei den meisten anderen Objektiven:Bei Blenden ab B.18–25 jedoch Kamera-bedingte (?) bzw. Objektiv-bedingte Beugungs-Unschärfen, ohne erkennbare Regel:mal ist's sogar bei B.32 OK (diese Blende hat das Objektiv offiziell gar nicht, geht aber dennoch), dann ist qualitativ kein Unterschied z.B. zu B.22, dann wieder nicht mal bei B.18–22 scharf. Das ist aber offenbar bes. bei Digitalkameras normal, ist bei allen meinen Objektiven so. Kleine Blendenöffnungen sind eh fast nicht bei "normalem" Licht und normaler ISO zu erreichen.Optimal ist ca.B. 18-22.Als Tele-Makro ist es natürlich schon wegen der (Fest-)Brennweite nur bedingt für "normale" Aufnahmen großer Objekte brauchbar:Wg. "engem" 85 mm-Bildwinkel nur begrenzt für Landschaft und Porträts etc. verwendbar! Ansonsten natürlich auch für weitere Abstände als Makro-Bereich einwandfrei verwendbar.Keine erkennbaren Verzeichnungen. Dennoch in der Kamera die digitale "automatische Verzeichnungskorrektur" besser immer eingeschaltet lassen (funktioniert nur mit NIKON-Objektiven, und dann einwandfrei. Ist funktionslos bei der Kamera unbekannten "Fremd"-Objektiven).Wer im Makrobereich bes. für bestimmte Sachaufnahmen die typische "rundliche" Weitwinkel-Perspektive, braucht zusätzlich ein WW-Makro-Objektiv.Könnte in seltenen Fällen relevant sein:Im Objektiv ist ein Silent-Wave-Motor verbaut, der auf Ultraschallbasis arbeitet und eine geräuscharme Autofokussierung ermöglicht. Ein Nachteil könnte sich dadurch bei der Tierfotografie ergeben: Viele Tiere (inkl. Insekten) können diese hochfrequenten Töne wahrnehmen und vielleicht anders als erwartet reagieren. Alternativ kann man manuell scharfstellen, was mit "normalen" Objektiven nicht so gut geht wie mit diesem.

Pour un premier objectif macro il est tout simplement génial ! Certes il faut y mettre un peu plus d'argent comparé à l'utilisation d'une bonnette mais le résultat est de très très bonne qualité ! Il faut prendre le temps de maîtriser les faibles profondeurs de champs au début mais après plusieurs heures d'utilisation cela devient un réel plaisir d'utiliser cet objectif. Je l'utilise avec le D5100 depuis plus d'un an à présent et je ne le lâche plus lors de mes promenades photographiques ! J'ai complètement délaissé mes autres objectifs pour me concentrer sur la photo macro qui ouvre un univers incroyable. On m'avait dit qu'une fois entré dans ce nouveau monde il serait difficile d'en sortir et c'est bien vrai ! Pour débuter en macro c'est le top, et il est beaucoup plus accessible que le fameux 105mm f/2.8 ! Il est stabilisé et ça aide vraiment quand la luminosité n'est pas très élevée. La bague de mise au point est assez large et très confortable à utiliser.En clair, si vous voulez vous lancer dans la macro, faites en l'acquisition, vous ne le regretterez pas !
