It seems that most vehicles use this type of grommet to keep the brake lights off when the brake pedal is not depressed. It's a simple item that keeps the brake light switch plunger depressed to keep it in the open position. Press your brake pedal and the plunger moves outward closing the circuit and turning your lights on. A simple replacement to solve a brake light on problem.

The plastic is tough, and seems like it will last. It’s very tight under the dash to get it fit into the hole, I used a piece of wood to press the brake pedal down and made a loop of gorilla tape and attached it to a screwdriver and pushed it into the hole, it’s easy to drop it into the open cavity on top of the brake pedal lever and then you’ll have to fish it out of there which is kind of a pain
