Whats the best way to attach the strap to a tripod?

2 good answers before mine. I attach 1 end around the headstock and the other end around the feet, but this was after a little experimentation. You may want to carry the tripod a different way to me (over the shoulder and on my back diagonally). I have seen other people just sling the tripod on the shoulder and carry the tripod by their side. Comfort is the key and I think you need to find the way that best suits you. The strap is more than versatile enough to try different methods, and I find it comfortable enough to carry the tripod all day. Just remove the whole strap when you use the tripod as it will get in the way.

The crucial dimensions are omitted from the specification - how long is the strap, please?

The useable bit is 3 feet 6 inches long , there are two adjustable fitting lengths with push in clips , one at each end which you circle around the tripod at either end. You can adjust the end lengths to fit snugly. I use on a heavy duty Manfretto Tripod, probably spelt Manfretto wrong, but it is a heavy unit and the strap makes it easy to carry. I like the product and for long days on the hoof it works well.

Is this any good with a birding scope not a camera?

Unless you have specific mounting points on your birding scope that will accommodate the strap I think I would avoid this strap. My birding scope surfaces are relatively smooth so there is nothing to stop the strap sliding off. I put my birding scope in a padded bag and the padded bag inside a daysack to transport it. A little bulky but no problems so far.

How big can the circles on the end be?

Minimum loop 2 inch/5 cm, though not really useable at this end of the scale. Maximum loop is 14 inch/36cm. I would suggest to useable 'loop' would be between 3 inch/7cm (minimum) and 13.5 inch/33cm (maximum).In addition I would say this is a most comfortable strap to use; I had no problem using the strap to carry my tripod all day. I also use an OP/TECH strap for my DSLR.
