This product works well with permanent ink pen for line drawings. The coasters are ivory/off-white which I like with permanent inks of any color. The ink pens do not bleed into the material as you will note in the photo. See the photo for use with colored pencils (Prismacolor and/or Polychromos). Note the result is a bit grainy (blue-green in photo), although the light texture may turn out as favorable (the embossed yellow/orange). These 4" square coasters are a bit larger than conventional "artist" tiles (3.5") and reasonably priced and great for practicing new "zen-inspired tangle" designs. I recommend trying these for your projects.

Nice color, my vinyls cut with cricut adhere nicely to the squares. And modpodge works nicely on them too. Without modpodge they absorb water on them. I use Avery 5164 Label to print my own designs (I will try to post pic later). You buy them at Staples, print on them like normal then stick them right onto the coasters. I printed little memes and drinking quotes on them for my birthday party last year and it was a hit. Now, I print my own custom coasters for every event, kids bday parties, our softball team parties, family xmas parties, you name it. They aren't going to last if you set drinks on them and they get soaked but make extras, a lot of people would take the dry ones home as souvenirs. Love these so much! I took these plain white coasters and applied Happy Planner stickers to make motivational coasters. We prefer these disposable cardboard coasters for their absorbency and then disposable nature. We find them more absorbent than glass, wood, stone, or ceramic coasters.

These were actually not used as coasters, but by the look and feel they would serve that purpose with no problem. We used these as mini cake-boards for some personal size cakes. Perfect size for what we needed and sturdy.

Product used for party coasters. Copied pictures, cut them to fit size of coaster. Used Modpage to adhere pictures to coaster (must use modpage sparingly) then used Modpage clear acrylic spray to protect picture. This spray causes lack of absorbency of the coasters however having the plain coasters handy to use along with the fun picture coasters protects furniture and makes for great conversation.

I use these to craft with. They are very sturdy.

It is off white. If you are using it for crafts or painting, you have to have the off white in consideration.
