Before it starts to boil. My entire family now uses this egg timer and find it easy to use and produces a reliable hard boiled egg.

Q: What colour does this change to when reaching specific done-ness? Ive got the blue one, but does it turn white or red or?

I have always gotten the red ones. It has 3 stages as the eggs cook to a specific done-ness. It will turn almost completely white for a hard boiled egg. Hope this helps.

Q: Will this work with steamed eggs as well as with boiled?

Not sure about the steamed eggs. It works really well with boiled ones
