Q: Are these EXTRA WIDE as the heading states, or are they wide as shown in the accompanying pictures?

These are the ones I also get at the store. They are not what I consider xtra wide, but as wide as I can find.

Q: description is confusing says fine noodles 12oz (4) then it says About this item (12) 12 oz. packages of egg noodles - medium. which is it?

It appears that these are the fine noodles. They advertise the medium as well and I think that is where the confusions lies. Just be sure to pick the ones that say "fine"

Q: are these noodles gluten free?

No, this particular noodle is NOT gluten free. This is the ingredient list: Ingredients Durum Flour (Wheat), Egg Yolks or Egg, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate (Iron), Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and Folic Acid. However, there is a gluten free version made by this company, but it states in large letters on the bag that the product is gluten free. Since Amazon stocks almost everything, or is associated with other vendors who have almost everything not in their stock, type in Amazon’s search Manischewitz Gluten Free Noodles. Good chance you will find it here.
