A fantastic book. If you are just getting used to how the mind can make you happy or miserable, this is the book for you. I first read "The Game of Life and How to Play it", which is also included here, in the eighties, and it changed my life. If you are a beginner, this book will change yours too, and if you are more seasoned in this field, this book will remind you of the simple, every day things you can do to make your life, and the lives of others, so much more enjoyable and successful - which we all forget now and then. This book is the best thing you can do for yourself. It does contain some religious references, but don't let that put you off, if you are not of that ilk; that did not affect the message, which is fundamentally one of love and positivity - and that translates to all beliefs. This is a delightful book, written in simple terms anyone can understand. and you will pick up again and again, when you feel in need of a lift - it is a friend for life.

This is a great book for two reasons, one is it simplicity and the second is its truth. It covers principles that have helped me understand me a bit better and to apply the laws. It is a little religious in statements, however it does reflect the time it was written in, today we call it the law of attraction, vibration, vortex etc. When she is saying exactly the same thing, just with a little religious principles thrown in. However if you can get past that, assuming that you are not the religious type, then it is a great read. It is not a religious read just touches on it a lot. all these principles are timeless it is just a case of how it was written and the time it was written in.For me there is no question it is a good read, I certainly gained a lot from it, keeping me positive in a very negative and critical world.

Like reading this book. A bit more grounded and complete than other books and authors who teach similar things. This & The Kybalion are the only 2 books I read and need now. Would highly recommend you read this book and apply the knowledge in your life. You WILL experience the results for yourself. That will be far more convincing to you to discern whether or not this is the truth or whether it works or not.

Mrs Scoval Shinn's book is a wonderful metaphysical guide to how we have the power to control our mind. It is a highly enjoyable book about using spiritual rules to get the most out of life. What we say, feel and think creates our lives - imagination is, as Florence says, the scissors that shape our ultimate reality.If we take the Bible as being rich in symbols and metaphors rather than literally - it guides us to a much deeper understanding and it's also about our accepting our own responsibility for what occurs in our lives.This book has a Christian basis but its applications go way deeper and wider in the realm of universal positivity, e.g. The Christ Within is the goodness within us and our humanity. Florence also writes as if she were having a loving conversation with a dear friend.Mrs Scovel Shinn's works have been in constant demand since they were first published in 1925 - they endure because of their depth and quality..

I'm a bit of a sucker for self-help books and had read about Florence Scovel Shinn and was curious. I bought her complete works and have to say I have enjoyed them and got a lot from them. Having said that they are, of course, old-fashioned in style, having been written in the early part of the last century. I wasn't too keen either on all the religious aspects. Although I'm spiritual, I am not into any organised religion. Even so, this was a great compendium and well worth the money.

An audiobook of The of Life and How to Play it found me on YouTube and the title intrigued me. Having listened several times and then discovering more books by FSS I decided I needed to know more, but wanted to read and make notes, hence the book purchase. What an amazing collection that puts so much of bible text in to perspective. I have struggled to understand much of the bible and what it’s telling me but this book just makes sense. I also love the many examples given that make the book personable. Having practised very simple affirmations on a daily basis I can confirm success. This is a life changing book if you go with it and have the determination, discipline and dedication to take action. You can make changes to your life that you previously never thought possible. They say that without faith it is impossible to please the Creator. When you look up the word please in an etymology dictionary, it is derived from the Latin word, placere, which means to be acceptable, be liked, or approved. Anytime we accept, like, or approve something or someone it is because something about that thing or person resonates with us. There are only two vibrations in the universe, fear and love. Everything else is a derivative of the two. We’re told that God/The Creator/Infinite Intelligence is love. So in order to resonate or be on the same frequency with God is to operate in faith. Fear repels the things we desire or are believing for, but attracts the things of which we are afraid. Like Job said, the thing I feared has come upon me. Our subconscious minds are unbridled power that just need direction. Whatever we impress on them are things that we attract. Just like the movie Aladdin, the subconscious mind is the genie in the lamp, when it is consciously impressed/rubbed with a thought by the person asking or making a wish, it attracts the thing dwelled upon, and says, your wish is my command. Without faith you cannot resonate, vibrate, or be in frequency with God. You must realize your conscious mind is the “watchman at the gate” and its chief function is to protect your subconscious mind from false impressions. Your subconscious mind is influenced by suggestion. It simply reacts to impressions given to it by your conscious mind. It does not show a preference for one course over another. Your subconscious mind is like the soil, which accepts any kind of seed, good or bad. Your thoughts are active and might be likened unto seeds. Negative, destructive thoughts continue to work negatively in your subconscious mind, and in due time will manifest an outer experience which corresponds with them. The same applies for positive thoughts. For we know that thoughts become things. This is why we have to vigilantly watch what we think and say. The conscious mind is like a drop of water, and subconscious mind is like the ocean. The objective is to bring the two in synch. This is how things are attracted or manifested. This is what is meant by the scripture, "If two of you (conscious and subconscious mind) shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." That being said, I highly recommend reading The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy and The Complete Works of Florence Scovel Shinn: The Game of Life and How to Play It, Your Word is Your Wand, The Secret Door to Success, and The Power of the Spoken Word. They are truly life changing. There is much you will gain by reading and visually seeing the concepts in these works. You will discover and derive several affirmations that are easily applicable to your life. However, if you’re pressed for time, as many are, then you can find the audio versions of them all on youtube, where again listening to something is an easy way to make impressions on the subconscious.
