The Eliminator continually works, in contrast to older electronic models we had tried.
We had tried other units operated only by batteries. Some got one rat, no multiple kills. The Eliminator can use batteries, but with the unit plugged into an AC outlet, we get kills all the time. We discovered that modern rat bait contains no real poison and is completely ineffective. So we went back to electric rat zapping in spite of our poor previous experience. The Eliminator has extra features not available before. The best feature, which is not advertised, is the included bright blue LED light on a cord that plugs into the unit. This ONLY lights after the rat is zapped and fully electrocuted. When the blue LED is flashing (and the unit is making a repeated audible chirp) we know a dead rat is in there. We then turn off the toggle switch on the unit. We use peanut butter as bait. With a small square of aluminum foil we make a dish in the bait pit to hold the peanut butter. After unplugging the power and LED cords from the housing, we dump the dead rat and bait dish. After that it is IMPERATIVE to clean and dry the BOTTOM section thoroughly to eliminate any oder a new rat could detect. We use the hot water sink sprayer without soap and a hair dryer. The electronics (located only in the top half) are NOT waterproof, so if used outdoors it is essential to have a covered location to protect the armed unit from getting wet. The small transformer that powers the unit has a bright red light when plugged in so you know power is available. We've written this review because the included directions are not very clear, particularly regarding the way the LED attachment works. It should always used, as the light on top of the unit is quite dim.

Waste of money
Do not waste your money. I have had it for 3 weeks now and nothing. The first two weeks I was trying it with batteries but something in it is defective and it does not work. The batteries were brand new and putting out 6.5 volts when tested with a multimeter. When you flip the switch on no lights would come on. After messing with it I was able to get a green and then red light but no lights after that. I went back out a few days later and no lights would come on. Also the food inside was gone and you could see footprints inside. I finally gave up on the batteries and decided to plug it into the wall. The green and red light come on when the switch is turned on and then the red flashes every 10 seconds so it seems like it is working correctly. I have had it like this for a week and have yet to get anything. If thinking about buying one don't read just the 5 star reviews because you might think it's a good product like I did. After I was having issues with it I went and read the 1 star reviews which there are a lot and found out I'm not the only one .

Works great
It is my favorite rodent trap. Kills the critters with no mess and easy to unload and reset. Its nice that it beeps when it catches something so I don't have a decaying carcass laying around. One trap works for both rats and mice.

The Eliminator works - plus 4 tips for success
The Eliminator is the most humane, least gruesome way to kill mice and rats in your house. Traps gross me out; I couldn't bear the anticipation of finding a decapitated rodent. Poison is the wrong choice - you end up harming and killing other animals who feast on the poisoned carcass. Don't use it! The Rat Zapper is quick, easy, clean, portable, and safe to use. Four quick tips: 1) Use it with AC power instead of batteries. Yes, the power cord is short but you can add on an extension cord to position the Zapper in the rodent path. 2) Use it indoors. Moisture from dew and fog shorts out the unit. 3) Follow the poop. Place the unit close to the wall where you see droppings. 4) Just a dab of peanut butter will do it. Remember, sometimes you need to be patient. You might get one mouse one night and then have to wait a week for the second one. Clean up the droppings and wait to see if more appear. That will help you know when you are done!

Absolute crap product-see update
I have now ordered and returned three of these. They kill one mouse, very effectively I might add, then refuse to work again. I have followed all directions, cleaned them, done all the things. I even gave it the oh maybe it was defective, I'll try again. But this is #3. You might ask why I'm crazy enough to keep trying. It's because it's a great mouse trap that one time it works. It's safe for all my animals, no splatted mouse to clean up, all good things. But only once, and then never again.Edit: The actual Gideon brand one works great. Took me 3 returns to get the actual pictured version and maker.

“YAS!!!!!!” Get this thing! On second thought...
update***Totally bummed. I have had this thing for a couple months. Worked unbelievable. Kill rate was often. Then poof nothing. No lights no kills. I had changed the batteries out and it just never powered back on. So I guess maybe it has a limit on how many times it kills stuff then it dies itself? I probably caught 15 mice/rats. Totally bummed.1st review: ok, I am not bought and paid for. I have had this thing for three days and I live on a farm in the middle of the desert. Pack rats, mice, ground hog thingys, all kinds of critters. But, I’ve had pack rat and mice issues and they eat wires! Day three and this thing is rock n and a rollin. The only complaint I have is it doesn’t self empty. Haha. Really tho, I won’t walk out to where it is at night. It has a buzzer that lets you know it has a dead critter. It beeps all night long. My poor ducks 😬. But that’s my issue not this things issue. I can’t teatify on long term quality, but on day three it’s a 5 star. Probably 5 empties so far? I may get more of these and keep them going. Happy customer here.
