Very light RID for drones without builtin RID

instructions not completely clear, several attempts to "bind" with IOS phone required. Very small and lightweight as advertised.

This review is for the Bwine B112S FAA Compliant Remote ID Broadcast Module to be used on drones that do not have a Remote-ID or are not FAA-compliant.If you fly a drone in the United States, remote-id is necessary regardless if you have a drone that has it built in or not. The Bwine remote-id module is an excellent lightweight solution that will make any drone FAA-compliant. I fly FPV drones for leisure and paid work, so it’s nice to have a RID model that I can slap onto any of my drones when I need to comply. This is what’s nice about this module: you can use it on multiple drones; all the FAA cares about is that they know how to track the drone for you.The documentation that comes with the module is fairly verbose and details setup and operation fairly well. It says that you have to go to FAA Dronezone and register under part 107; however, you don’t have to have a part 107 license to use this; you can register it for recreational use. As for the information, you will need the RID or serial number from the module (gathered from the app or side of the module.) Instead of a drone model, just put “Bwine” as the UAS manufacturer. You can put the exact model in the UAS model field. Since I’m using it on my home-built FPV drones, I just put “FPV drone” in the UAS model field.The Bwine Scanner app worked for me without issues on my Samsung S23+. The app uses 2.4GHz Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to communicate with the module. When you open the app and turn on the module, it will automatically pick it up and populate the RID. You can populate the other fields with specific model information and your FAA registration ID. Your FAA ID is the same for every drone you own. Save your information and restart the module and you are ready to go. Print labels with your FAA ID and stick them on your drone and the module.Regarding use and performance, I was surprised that that app tracked my drone flight reasonably well. The module has GPS to track your flight for the session. To comply, you must run the phone app and have the module on concurrently. Presumably, you must be within range for the remote ID and tracking functions to work. I didn’t test the range extent, but it tracked my session up to 1500 ft. It’s nice that the module also has a buzzer if you lose your drone. I usually put buzzers on my drones, but it never hurts to have another. There is a slider in the app that you can switch on and it will activate the buzzer. The module weighs only 13.55 grams, so anything that requires the module shouldn’t see much of a performance hit. It uses its own power supply, so there is no worry about having to wire it into your flight controller, but you do have to remember to charge it. The module lasted through four 8-10 minute flights (about 40 minutes) with about 15% left when I finished. My only complaint is having to use a RID module in the first place, but this is the world we live in, and this is a solution to satisfy that requirement.

This module is a quick and simple way to be in compliance with the FAA’s Remote ID requirement for any UAS over 250 grams or .55 lbs. The ID printed on the outer case of the module is the number that you register on the FAA’s website.The module is self contained and has its own built-in power source that is charged via a USB cable. The module can be attached a number of ways to your UAS, with the included zip ties or with the adhesive backed velcro or double sided tape. I went the velcro route so that I could use the remote ID across a number of UAS I have registered with the FAA. Be sure to designate that ID for the aircraft registered on the FAA’s website. Because I used velcro and might have crashed once or twice in my lifetime, I added bright orange tape to the module. In the event that the module comes off in a crash it makes visually locating it much easier…so much easier…not that such a thing would ever happen to me. I’ve had the module powered on for well over 4 hours and the battery seemed to have plenty of life still left in it.There are a number of apps available to check that your module is indeed broadcasting your remote ID. A QR code is included for the “Bwine Scanner” app. This app will also “bind” with your remote ID module and will activate a buzzer to assist you in locating your UAS or the module itself in the event the two become separated. The buzzer is not very loud in comparison to the buzzers typically attached on a quadcopter or other UAS and I would not recommend relying on it in lieu of a proper buzzer firmly attached to your UAS. The app requests information regarding your identity that is in no way obligatory for FAA compliance - that happens only on the faa.gov website. I was left wondering to whom that information was of interest.In summary, the Bwine remote ID module is quite functional and complies with the FAA Remote ID rules in that I was able to verify that when it was “on” by confirming that my registered ID was indeed being broadcasted. The size and weight of the module is comparable with others on the market and it comes with a number of mounting solutions and QR code for an app to confirm its operation.

This module made it quick and easy for my nephew to make his drone compliant with the FAA. It only works on drones that weigh over 250 grams so it should work fine on your drone unless it is a tiny one. The module is rechargeable and has a battery life that lasts 2 - 3 hours. I love that they gave us different options to secure the module to the drone - zip ties, velcro with glue backing and double-sided tape. We used the velcro so it is easy to charge and it has been working great.The module is affordable and works great. It is a small size and we found it easy to position it onto the drone. The module also features a buzzer to help you find your drone, but you need to download an app on your phone to do that. There are multiple apps to choose from and the QR code on the module should work with any of them. This module makes it easy to get your drone compliant and is a great purchase for kids and teens who don't think about the FAA requirements.

Does what it says, helps make our mini drones faa compliant with remote id. I think it could be smaller yet and is a bit to large even for my mavic mini (yes the first dji mini drone). Would probably work better on larger or more powerful drones.
