Heavily marked up at time of writing, but very hard to find Kotatsu in the US that aren't, unless you are lucky enough to live near a shop that sells them locally. The shipping cost of kotatsu is non-trivial, so importing from Japan directly gives you more or less the same as the marked up prices that US sellers use.This kotatsu is nice. Easy assembly, the heater is well shielded so I don't worry about my cats ever burning themselves, and the tabletop looks good. My only gripe with it is that the legs look like cheap plastic, because they are. But, with a futon mat on, it matters not.As for the heating portion of this kotatsu, it has many different heat levels to choose from, whether you want a subtle warmth or a blast of inferno. Overall, highly recommended if you live in an area that gets cold - within the first week I got it, I fell asleep twice while under it. Of course, I also highly recommend picking up Zabuton.

A wonderful way to start a cold winter. It's great for my poorly insulated apartment without having to spend a ton of money keeping the place warm. We've used it (and the blanket, sold separately) for over a month and our electric bill is the lowest its ever been in November despite an abnormally cold month. The table is sturdy and the top that lays on the blanket is heavy enough that it does not move even though it is not inset or secured. Some people are complaining about the price of shipping or the inflated price of the product to compensate for "free shipping" but I'd say its 100% worth it considering it's such a large/heavy/awkward import item.For taller/larger people this table may be a challenge (check/test if it'd be comfortable for you!) but as someone just over 5 ft tall it's very comfortable to stretch out under.

This is PERFECT. BEST investment I have ever made for a piece of furniture so far. Especially with the cold front coming in, this is heaven right now. It does get hot, even on the lowest setting, but it's great. Nice quality, the space heater is nice, and the shipping was FAST. I ordered near the end of October. Expected delivery was Dec 2-23, but it came in the first week of November. Very happy! :D I highly recommend.

Good and intact package when received. Overall, good Kotatsu. Super warm, and heated instantly. I would recommend it. Good for one or two person in a small apartment. The only part need Assembly is the leg part, which feels like made of plastic. But as long as you have a cover or blanket on top, doesn't matter. The only one small tool you need for assembly is already included in the package.It takes about a week to ship from Japan to U.S. , and shipping is a little bit expensive.For variety of cute and interesting Kotatus Futon/cover and comforter with reasonable price, I suggest to go to Rakuten Japanese global online market. This is probably the best furniture purchase I have ever made. For a couple or roommates who have different ideas of what "too hot" means this is a great conflict resolver since the heat is contained under the table. It is also great for colder climates where heating an entire living space could become expensive. Also if you prefer to sit on the floor it makes a fantastic study table, the height is just right, although it sometimes makes my computer run hot (the surface does get pretty warm). It is expensive to ship but compared to other websites selling kotatsu's this is similarly priced and I felt more comfortable purchasing through Amazon than through somewhere like Global Rakuten. I used some nice floor mats also purchased through amazon under it: Incstores - Premium Soft Wood Interlocking Foam Tiles and then a regular square shaped polyester Queen sized comforter in place of a kotatsu futon. I also purchased a step up and down transformer to run it and two floor chairs from the Improvements catalog. The legs do not fold, but they are easily attached and detached with a screw. My one complaint about the design is that the table top just sorts of sits on the blanket so it does slide around a tiny bit, but not in a very noticeable way since it's pretty heavy.Overall I love it and hope to have a kotatsu every place I live from now on!

order was placed August 31, expected to be delivered October 3 at the earliest, and it was delivered September 9. easy assembly. it comes with a tool, but it's so easy i could just put it together by hand. i thought the legs were collapsible, and they aren't, but they are easy enough to take off and stack up for storage so i'm not giving a lower rating just because of that.i haven't gotten the futon set that i ordered to go with this, and it isn't cold enough to start using the space heater yet, so i will be updating my review by december to include the heater's performance. i was very happy to see that it looks like a US plug, so i won't have to drop any extra money on an adapter (i don't know if they customize this piece depending on the customer, but converters can be found right here on amazon if you do need one). in addition, the wire completely detaches from the heater when it's not in use. i have a rabbit that has a habit of chewing on wires, so it's nice to be able to use this as a regular coffee table for the time being and not having to worry about the wire being damaged.when looking for a futon set, or if you want to opt for a regular blanket, try to find one that's about 80x80 inches or 200x200 cm. most listings for kotatsu futon sets should specifically say that it's made to fit a 75x75 to 80x80 cm table.
