Lasted 7 years!
Great umbrella! After 7 years of use, some rain and lots of sun protection, this umbrella finally had a broken strut (not sure if this is accurate umbrella terminology!). It was frequently used and travelled the world. It lasted almost exactly 7 years after I bought it to the day. The design always made me smile...much more interesting than my husband's black umbrella!

Sturdy and works great to protect from sun rays and heat.
We bought one a year ago. Totally works to reduce heat from the sun. Used it in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and in the Everglades. Definitely noticed huge difference when under the umbrella versus standing directly in the sun. Decided to buy another, but wanted a different color or print. I ordered and returned two other umbrellas and bought a second of this one. This umbrella set the mark, and the others were significantly lower quality, even with their good reviews. What works: Color is good. Print is pleasing. Material is very sturdy and has no bad odor (the other two had strange and stinky fabric). Handle is comfortable enough, though it would be nice to have it a little longer. Opens very easily with one button push. Closes fairly easy with a button push and then collapsing the shaft manually. Definitely superior to the others we tried. Wish it came from this company in other colors or prints. Overall excellent value for the low price.

Updating a previous review...
I've bought this item a few times in the past, and each time, I could use it daily (I use it both in the rain and as a parasol on sunny days) for a long time. However, this last time I purchased it, it was slightly different from before (i.e., a bit more lightweight and the fastener is now a button rather than Velcro). I was fine with the changes until the cord snapped two weeks after I got it (thankfully, it was only drizzling at the time and not a heavy rain). This is a very pretty umbrella, so it's upsetting that it's now so poorly constructed.UPDATE TO THE ABOVE REVIEW: The defective umbrella actually still works, but once in a while it would suddenly collapse as described in my first review. I then have to close it completely and open it again (and then it'll work fine until the next time it collapses by itself). However, I actually got a replacement for the defective one, and haven't had any issues with the new one. So maybe the defect is just a fluke? Overall, I have to say this is still one of the prettiest and most useful umbrella/parasols I've bought on Amazon. I do carry a parasol every day (I'm very conscientious about sun protection!), so have tried several different ones from different sellers, but I keep going back to this one.

This is a strong and sturdy sunbrella that really does protect you from the sun!
I purchased this because the walking and waiting at bus stops during my commute had become unbearable and I had taken to using a regular umbrella which did help moderately but not nearly enough. I really have no complaints here - it's a beautiful item and it holds up very well in the rain and wind, and while it won't make you feel like you're inside if it's a really hot day, it does block the sun very effectively and it's gotten rid of the farmer's tan on my arms, haha. I also like the button that makes it very easy to collapse the canvas, though I agree with another review that said it takes a bit of strength to collapse the pole. It's fine for me, but it may not be for everyone. I also haven't had any issue with accidentally closing the umbrella due to the button on the handle, but I could see how it would be a problem for someone holding on too tight in the wind (when it's windy I actually grab the pole itself, so that may be the difference). I think my only suggestion for improvement would be to make the handle a bit easier to grip - because I bought this for its UV-protection properties, I'm often using it when it's hot outside, and when my hands get sweaty it really starts to slip. I sometimes wrap a washcloth around the handle to make it easier to hold!Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase and I consider the price to be a bargain!

Great Sun Barrier, Use with a full suite of sun gear to provide shade where none exists
So I finally convinced my wife to get a Sun umbrella because she is photosensitive. If she is out in the sun for any length of time, my wife starts to swell (head, face, etc). She picked this umbrella because the pattern is pretty. She comments that it's well-made, but personally I would open it gingerly to avoid breaking it. I am not a doctor, but she was also to use this, and all these items below to stay in the direct sunlight for a about an hour and half which is actually pretty amazing.Items used for Sun Protection:- Coolibar Zip Hoodie (Gray)- UnderArmor UV baseball cap (Gray)- Coolibar Fingerless Sun Gloves- Glodeals Umbrella- Sunpants (Hazy on manufacturer)- Benedryl (On standby)- SunblockThis was the 10:00 am to about 11:30 am sunlight in early October. The umbrella solved the issue of direct sunlight hitting her, which is what normally triggers any swelling. She did not have any adverse symptoms beside minorly overheating, which was solved with some iced drinks. This umbrella isn't a miracle, by any means, but used smartly in conjunction with other sun gear can you get out there to family events like seeing nephews and nieces in the pumpkin patch which you wouldn't normally be able to attend.

Solidly-Constructed & Good-Looking Umbrella / Parasol
I purchased 2 of Glodeals Van Gogh Masterpiece Oil Painting Auto-open & mostly easy-enough to close parasol / umbrella. Both of them popped open forcefully, so, be careful that you don't stand too close to anyone when opening them, since they could be used unintentionally as a weapon! That aside, the artwork is quite nice. All I really cared about was making sure that it/they were strong enough to withstand wind (I'll be on any island); lightweight enough (I'll be using one or the other as a parasol), and...I hesitate to call it a "parasol" style-wise, though, it says it offers UV-protection, and, since it will provide shade, it technically blocks the sun, anyway. So long as it hold out (I'm keeping one aside to use as an umbrella, when back on the mainland).
