I bought this for my husband as a gift and he absolutely loves it. The voice recording is clear and loud and the readings are interesting. If you like the mystical arts, you will enjoy this mini Zoltar fortune teller. He hits all the right notes.

"Zoltar" is probably the best-known animatronic fortune telling character in the United States, and this is a miniaturized tribute to the swami who's stuck in a fairground booth. It's small enough not to take up much space on a bookshelf, and fun enough to please all but the grouchiest of spoilsports.After some very minor assembly (including the loading of two AAA batteries, not included) Zoltar is ready to start entertaining you. His crystal ball lights up, as do two background lights. He says a limited set of stock sayings when you press a button. He also comes with a mini deck of paper fortune cards that resemble the type of tickets the real Zoltar machines hand out after you insert your money. (These tickets are smaller than the actual tickets that you would get from a real Zoltar.It would have been nice if the machine actually dispensed the tickets like the full-size Zoltars do. It would also have been nice if Zoltar himself were a mechanical figure and not simply a photograph of a real Zoltar from a real machine. Those things would have driven the price up and also required a larger toy, but I wanted to make these potential shortcomings clear.This is a great gift for anyone who ever tried a Zoltar machine at an arcade or fairground and fell in love with this piece of animated Americana. It's also a good gift for any budding fortune tellers with a sense of humor about themselves.

It's so cute & I LOVE the advice like "you must live your days as if they were your last, because one day, they will be". Love the cards too - just a neat & fun gadget that doesn't take up a lot of space! Tip - I opened the box from the bottom and it did not tear.

Before buying this item, I read the reviews and honestly, I was a little leary. But after receiving my mini Zoltar, I was totally glad I bought it. It has many different fortunes (about 15) and you hear one with each push of the button. The audio is loud and crystal clear and the fortune is spoken in English with a gypsy accent. With each push of the button, you hear one loudly and crystal clear each time you push the button. When you turn the power switch on, the candle lights illuminate and pulse somewhat replicating a flame. The crystal ball glows bright blue and flashes continuously while the power is on. The packaging has protective foam inside the Zoltar box, and the seller did a great job of protecting the item when shipped to me.

So, my boyfriend has been talking to me about Zoltar for months! He was so excited when he found a life sized Zoltar in an arcade in another state, so when I found this novelty product, I was so excited!! His birthday was just last week, so I purchased it for his birthday/Valentine's Day. We put the batteries in and nothing! Lights didn't turn on, no sound. I even tried putting the batteries in myself to no avail. So, I exchanged it for another one. Round 2, STILL DOESN'T WORK! After the batteries were installed, no lights, no sound. Needless to say, my boyfriend was extremely disappointed that his gift was a bust not once, but twice. I tried ONE MORE TIME and purchased another one. When we received it, both him and I noticed that this box actually had the sticker on the lid, you know, to prove that it is brand new. We believe the other two that we received had been returned previously and then just resold. Well, to bring this story to and end, the 3rd one actually worked! My boyfriend was so excited that his gift was in working order.

This little Zoltar is super cute and fun. Love it.
