Q: how long can I safely leave the light on for?

Because these are LED lights there is no limit for leaving them on. Heat is not an issue but out of habit from my old photo days of super hot quartz units I turn any lights off if I'm not using them for a while. Even the more modern fluorescent bulbs get hot so they got turned off as well. Hope this helps.

Q: Does the ring light need batteries?

No you have to plug it into a outlet, idk why it even says this is wireless or that u can use it outdoors. Except for that, It’s a very nice ring light.

This comes with batteries for both remotes, there's no need to buy batteries.
