Barnett Performance Products Extra-Plate Clutch Kit 307-30-20011

My stock clutch with 24000 miles was pulling and acting like the cable was stretched. After some research I suspected the "spring plate" was falling apart and read that this clutch kit was an ideal replacement that would allow me to skip re-installing the spring plate (leaving it out entirely). I used the stock clutch spring and installed this kit following the Harley service manual and included documentation and I find that not only is the feel of the clutch acceptable, it feels much better than stock! it's crisper and more responsive, and I have the added comfort of knowing the permanently discarded spring plate will never fail again. Keep in mind that special tools are required. You will need a spring compression tool (Barnett's worked well for me) and a pair of HEAVY DUTY snap ring pliers. I broke the cheap set ($14.00) I bought on Amazon in 5 seconds and had to run out to NAPA and buy ones that worked.for around $25.00 Cheap snap ring pliers will add hours to your job. Iin any event I HIGHLY recommend this clutch kit.

This kit came with an extra plate to replace the "grenade" spring plate that fails and causes motor damage. It turns out my bike (2001 Sportster) had a bad throw out (adjuster screw) bearing but I bought this kit to upgrade and get that spring plate out! Everything went well … note: The last "C" clip didn't just fall in place .. but I was able to feed in the clip end in the slot and rotate the clip ( in my case counter clockwise) like a cork screw until the whole clip was in! This was necessary to avoid breaking the slots on the clutch hub! This is also the best way to remove the clip. I'm happy with the kit!

Like not having a gernade clutch anymore! This extra plate clutch was a great upgrade . Easy to install.... update , I put 5000+ miles on it in the Florida heat... still hooks up great with no slippage ... but I notice a squeal for a second if I take off quick??? Any thoughts?
